As the structural and miscellaneous steel subcontractor for Powerhouse Arts, Maspeth Welding was responsible for both the restoration of the historic Turbine Hall and the construction of the new Boiler House facility. Our work included reinforcing existing steel elements, fabricating and installing new structural components, and integrating modern systems within the preserved industrial framework.
This complex project required close coordination and precision to meet the demands of adaptive reuse, while supporting the functional needs of a contemporary arts and fabrication space. The result is a seamless blend of historic character and modern capability — a reflection of our ability to deliver high-quality steel solutions for unique, technically demanding projects.

" In the 2000s, the deteriorated building became a destination for graffiti artists and squatters, nicknamed the “Batcave.” The roof and most windows were lost, leaving the interior open to the elements. Like most of the area around the Canal, the site was heavily polluted and designated a brownfield. "
Powerhouse Arts launched its Artist Subsidy Program in 2025, designed to subsidize fabrication services for New York based artists facing financial barriers in realizing their projects. Watch their video here.
